Update #76 - Beware the https
December 2nd, 2025
|
Naturally, there is nothing to be afraid of, https is a good thing - if applied properly. And this is where my criticism of it stems from.
Lately, people have been reporting strange things happening when trying to visit & playback videos through https connections on Cornica. From "webserver down" messages to "connection failed".
Please, try to support the open web and connect via http. There is nothing on here that would require end-to-end encryption. (that is, if your browser manufacturer still let's you choose - many will take that decision for you. My advice to those is to hop onto Cornica from retro gear or within emulation.)
On this occasion, I'd like to thank you for your comments in the guestbook. Since I don't do any tracking (as things should be!) it's the only way I get to know whether somebody actually really uses Cornica! (well, that and the uploads folder on our FTP!)
Speaking of using Cornica - what I'd really love to see is more user-generated content. The Mac used to be about creativity for me. I'd be cool to have more of that old spirit on Cornica. Be it user created animations (example) or music video (like this one) or just videos of events (like this record from a concert!).
Please, don't get me wrong! I'm super thankful for anybody uploading movie trailers and commercials, and they will always have a place here. But ultimately I'd love Cornica to be this little creative & uncommercial refuge within the whole dull over-commercialized sales highway they used to call World Wide Web.
Do you think I'm hoping for too much? Feel free to comment in the guestbook or send me an e-mail.

Update #75 - You say high, I say res!
June 12th, 2025
|
For once, most PowerPC versions of new Quicktime movies added (see list below) now enjoy a higher resolution. I've decided to move to higher resolutions, where possible. I've had people outright asking for it, and judging by your guestbook entries it has become obvious that most of you use G3 Macs and faster, rather than the 601 / 603 / 604 CPU powered beige Macs that I had initially set out to support with my PowerPC versions of clips. I hope watching Quicktime videos in 852x355 on your iMac G5 will excite some of you! :-)
Speaking of the guestbook, I've gone through all the entries and moved those older than 2 years to the guestbook archive. Feel free to leave a comment about Cornica, how you use it and what you'd love to see on it. I read every single comment!
Without further ado, here's our changelog for the past two weeks:

Update #74 - New clips and the music category
June 4th, 2025
|
Hello fellow Quicktime friends,
lots of new videos have been uploaded with this update, thanks to your generous contributions. Please keep it up!
Before we get to the latest Quicktime additions, a word on our music category. I've been pondering for some time on it's future. No, it isn't going away, but I don't want to spend hours uploading a gazillion of pop music videos which eventually I may have to take down due to copyright. It is a hot topic and I've recently been ..um.. sensibilized.
I don't want to kill the music category though, as I see value in having some retro computing related music videos like It is pitch dark or Cornica user created material like dronecatcher's Hiroshimaz, or a small clip from a live concert, or a documentary. But not your typical music video churned out by Big Corp. record studios.
So please save whatever Britney Spears or Gorillaz video you'd like to keep as they'll be gone soon. They will, however, not be *really* gone as everything uploaded is saved and perhaps I'll spin it off into another project at one point. Or would you be interested in setting up such a spin-off project for Quicktime music videos? Please drop me a line if you are!
Anyway, here come the latest Quicktime clips: (in no particular order)
